Baby Shark

Updated: Mar 19, 2019

Is your little one into sharks? Are you into clean kids? Then this is the kid's wash cloth for you!

Kids these days are into more than just rubber duckies for their baths. My daughter likes unicorns, cats, and sharks with her bubbles! Made this in Steel Blue and Lilac colors.

I used Lion Brand's Coboo Yarn - 50% cotton/50% bamboo and super soft. I have a few washcloths already that I made from this yarn and I'm still enjoying them. Great for washcloths or even better...clothes! I look forward to working on a clothes project with this yarn.

I made this pattern as a silhouette of a shark and I think he's kind of cute....he's a happy shark after all. It's all chain and single crochet. Easy to do and a great beginning project for changing colors. Full instructions are below.

Chart:

Pattern is worked from the bottom up. The chain at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch. The first stitch of the shark is worked with the right side facing. This will make a difference in how the pattern looks.

You can decide how big you want to make the washcloth. I put 10 rows of single crochet at the bottom and 10 at the top with the washcloth coming out as 7 inches wide and 6 inches high.

You will want 2 skeins of the Blue Steel colored yarn so you do not have to cut it on each side or carry it behind the Lilac color on every single row. You will need to cut 6 feet of the Lilac color so you don't have to have 2 skeins of that color.

If you are not familiar with color changes when doing single crochet see instructions here.

Items Needed:

Lion Brand Coboo Yarn - Blue Steel (2 skeins) - Color A

Lion Brand Coboo Yarn - Lilac (1 skein) - Color B

5MM crochet hook

large-eye blunt needle for weaving in ends

Abbreviations:

CH - Chain

Makes eyes and gills:

Cut a 1 foot piece of Color A. Using a blunt large-eyed needle place a cross stitch for the eye. (You can weave in the end before you start the stitch or after).

The gills are straight stitches from top to bottom or bottom to top that are 3 stitches high. Weave yarn along the back to the location of the gills. Start at the top and make the 1st gill 3 stitches tall. Go 1 stitch to the right for the bottom of 2nd gill. Place 2nd gill. Go 1 stitch to the right for the top of the 3rd gill. Place 3rd gill. Weave in ends.
