Ok, so I'm just going to say that if it wasn't for Joann I'd probably need therapy. I was reminded of this fact when I was in the store today and I saw their sign that said, "Yarn is cheaper than therapy".
Even when I get a little aggravated because something didn't come out quite like I expected, or I can't seem to figure out some shaping, or I see a mistake and have to ripe out an hour of work---it's a fleeting feeling of "ahhhh!!" and then it quickly passes and I'm back to making something and eventually you have some actual physical thing to show people. I made this!!!
I think if we all found something to make with our hands, that we enjoyed the making thereof, we'd all be a lot happier!
I've got a soft spot for Lion Brand Yarn. I'm not sure exactly why, but maybe we agree on colorways and textures more often than not. Whenever I see a new color or type of yarn that I've liked, I would it pick it up and inevitably it would be Lion Brand Yarn.
My issue is that there are sooooo many great colors and types/styles of yarn but I never get to look at them in the store. How do I know what they really look and feel like? I can read a yarn weight online but that doesn't mean it's what I expect. There are so any different ways to make yarn look these days that you really need to be able to see it in person to see if you like it and to see if the colors go together the way the you'd like.
I sent a suggestion to Joann stating that I think they should have 1 skein of each kind of color that they sell so people can really look at it and figure out what they want to buy then they can have it shipped to them. Who wants to take the risk of having something shipped, and having to wait a week or so, if they're not even sure they're going to like it. I typically pass and only buy things that are in the store, but I'd really like to branch out more and try all these gorgeous yarns!
I hope they really like this suggestion. I believe it would lead to more sales, less therapy, and more general happiness. We all win! :}
In the meantime I plan to start working with various yarns that I haven't used yet and make some nice swatches so you can tell how the yarn actually looks when it crocheted. A lot of online pictures really do not help me see what the yarn looks like worked up. Sorry! I hope to be helpful in this regard. More happiness for all!
Can you guess what I was buying yarn for today? (See picture above). Yes, I got a little surprise yesterday. I know that we have a few ladies in our Moms group that are expecting, but one of the moms that I'm not as familiar with is expecting in July and we just planned her baby shower for May 23rd. This is much earlier than what *I* was expecting. LOL
I literally just finished a new baby blanket on Tuesday for another mom and I thought I was going to have more time for other projects first. Oh well....LOL...see above statement on therapy. I'd much rather have too many requests for projects than too few. So, I get to have fun designing a new baby blanket *right now* rather than later.
What will you crochet today?
