Perfect for a new baby girl!
I loved watching this blanket come together. Once again the beautiful yarn is the star of the show here. I loved the colors in the Lion Brand Baby Soft - Circus Print in the Infinity Granny Square baby blanket so much I used it in this baby blanket also.
This blanket also uses the Lion Brand Yarn Baby Soft - Parfait Print color. So cute! I especially like the way it looks in a corner to corner crochet granny square!
There are 3 different patterns for the granny squares, 2 different colorways of yarn, using 4 skeins of yarn, and they are stitched together using a slip stitch. This slip stitch gives the squares a patched together look.
Each square uses double crochet, single crochet, and chain stitches. So, even if you're a beginner this is still a very achievable and enjoyable project.
I love the way this turned out. I never quite know what I'm going to get when I think up these designs and I'm definitely very happy with this one.
Each square is 7 inches wide and tall (square, right? lol). The overall blanket is around 34 inches wide and tall.....right....it's a square :}
The amount of yarn needed for the granny square (pattern #1) is such that each square will start out on a different color. I really lucked out because when I started the granny squares this was exactly what I had in mind but I had no idea how big I would need to make it. It just so happened to work with a 7 inch square, which was the size I needed! Love it when patterns just seem to fall into place like that!
On to the pattern....

So, you may want to look at the summary and then look at the picture and see if you can do it before reading the detailed instructions).
When slip stitching at the end of the row, try to make the last loop before slip stitching as small as possible. This helps make the join less visible.

Leave a 4 foot tail on these squares. It will be used to slip stitch the squares together.
3rd and 4th granny square pattern (Make 4 in each color, 8 total):
1. These are both corner to corner crochet, which is pretty quick once you get the hang of it. Instructions for corner to corner crochet are here. Each square is 11 x 11 'blocks', so once you have 11 on each side you will stop increasing on each side.
2. Next, edge each of the 8 squares with a single crochet stitch all around. For each 'block' you will want 3 single crochets. In each corner make it 2 single crochet, CH 2, 2 single crochet (into the chain space).
Leave a 4 foot tail on the squares using Parfait Print. They will be used to put all the squares together.
Time to put the blanket together:
Once you have the squares made it's time to put 4 of them together with a slip stitch from top to bottom and side to side to make a large square.
Squares 1 and 2 come together for a square, and squares 3 and 4 make another one. Of course, you could choose to lay them out differently then I have, but I really liked this lay out!
1. First, you will slip stitch the squares together as shown here. Use the tails left from making the Parfait Print squares. Slip stitch from top to bottom and then side to side. You can also view the video here.
2. Second, get your Parfait Print color back out and single crochet a border around the new large square. 1 single crochet for each stitch, and 3 single crochet in each corner.
3. Now you have 4 large squares that all have single crochet edges. Use the Parfait Print color to slip stitch these 4 large squares together - top to bottom and then side to side.
4. Lastly you need to make the border. It is a shell stitch using the Circus Print color. There are 6 double crochets in each shell, except for the corners, which are 8 double crochets. You want the shell stitches to land on the corner, so if it's off by a stitch or so, all you need to do is skip a stitch or so somewhere on the side to make it line up. Don't worry, because of the way the shell stitches are made you can't tell if there's an extra stitch in between.
What will you crochet today?
