HI, I'M A BLANKET

Updated: Mar 18, 2019

It's just a little loud.

On one of my many visits to Joann's my daughter saw this yarn and just had to have it. As usual, I had no idea what I could make out of it but if she wanted it then I'm going to try to figure out something.

The yarn is a self-striping yarn from Red Heart called Bright Stripe. Very bright, neon like colors. 100% acrylic, machine washable and dryable.

If you're not familiar with Red Heart yarn, it's known for being a good value but not necessarily soft. It tends to soften up after washing, like most yarns. I made an afghan out of it over a decade ago and it's not scratchy to use at night (when it's actually cold enough to use here!)

I've recently heard that you can wash the yarn before using it which would make it softer on your hands. I haven't tried this yet, but what you can do is put the skein of yarn into a bag that's usable in the wash or a pillow case (tie it closed) and use the gentle cycle. I will try this the next time I use this yarn and let you know the results.

I decided to use this yarn for a doll's blanket because awhile back I made a doll's blanket out of blue yarn since my daughter really likes blue. At the time it was a great way to practice my crochet skills. However, it's kind of tight and it's just a little small for some of her dolls. (I like to use the wrong size crochet hook ya'll). It also doesn't hurt to have another blanket for your dolls, right? :)

I really love doing corner to corner crochet and it looks beautiful as well. This doll blanket is simply corner to corner crochet with this self-striping yarn.

My daughter has told me that she really likes it except for the black parts :) I guess black isn't a loud enough color for her. LOL

It does make for an interesting look though and I will be more likely to try Red Heart yarn in the future.

Items Needed:

1 Skein Red Heart Stripes - Bright Stripe

1 5mm Crochet hook

Scissors and a yarn needle to weave in the ends

Pattern:

Corner to corner crochet, increasing on each side until the 19th row, then decrease on 1 side; start decrease on other side after row 21.

If you aren't familiar with corner to corner crochet see the linked video. You'll love it! It's fun and easy to do once you get going.

What will you crochet today?
