My daughter picked out this yarn, because of the many colors I'm sure. It reminds me of a box of crayons :} Perfect for kids. This is Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Yarn - Patchwork Grey.
This pattern is very simple, a great one for beginners, and your little one gets a cute purse out of the deal!
It's made using chain stitches, slip stitch, and single crochet.
I used less than 1 skein for it so you could make it larger, but I think the dimensions are on spot. My lovely 4 year old daughter LOVES to put things into purses, boxes, bags, etc. If the purse, box, bag, etc is really big then it's just going to have a lot more stuff in it! :} This way they only have a small amount of space to work with and they can still see what's inside.

The body of the purse is all one piece, single crochet, worked flat, then folded to weave the sides together and leave a flap for the front. The handle is chain stitches with slip stitches worked into it. The button is worked by making a magic ring and working single crochets into it.

Begin by chaining 25
Row 1 - 40: 24 SC; turn
Row 41 - 42: DEC; SC across; DEC; turn (decrease single crochet on each end, 2 rows)

Fold over so that the flap will be in the front and stitch the sides together (inside out) with a wide eye blunt needle. Fasten off each end.
Handle:
Attach yarn on the right side of the seam (pull up a loop and chain 1) and slip stitch into the left side of the seam so it's firmly attached. Chain 50 and slip stitch into the other side of the purse (left side of the seam), then slip stitch into the right side of the seam.
Slip stitch into the top loop of each of the chains; slip stitch into the right side (front) of the seam and fasten off.
Button:
Start with a magic circle, leave a 6 inch tail.
Row 1: CH 1; 6 SC into the circle; SS into the CH 1 pull the circle closed.
Row 2: CH 1; 6 SC into the circle again; SS into the CH 1; fasten off leaving a 6 inch tail.
Pull the front flap over to determine where to attach the button. Pull the 2 tails through to the inside and tie in a knot making sure it's not too tight so it can be easily fastened.
Weave in your ends and you're done!
