I'm so happy to share this adorable Crochet Pizza Man Rug with you today. It can also be used as a kid's blanket. Pizza Man is always happy to see you!
Pizza Man is so adorable from his crusty "hair", pepperoni eyes, and mushroom nose, to his smirky smile.
He also doesn't mind being used as a blanket.
Make PIzza Man as large as you like. All of the instructions are included below or you can purchase an add free pdf copy for $2 from my Ravelry Shop. My completed rug was 44 inches along the top and 36 inches along each side.
Let me tell you a little about the yarn and the project and then we'll get into the completed instructions for putting this guy together.
For this pattern I used Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Oatmeal, Toffee, and Spice and I also used Homespun Thick & Quick Barley. This is now some of my favorite yarn to use. I expect to be making some cozy things for winter with these yarns this year!
Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick is a super bulky yarn that works up fast and comes in tons of great colors, solid and variegated. It's 80% Acrylic and 20% Wool.
Lion Brand Homespun Thick & Quick is also a super bulky yarn that is called "boucle", which means a looped or curly ply. So, it's a "lumpy, bumpy" yarn that makes a very pretty texture all on it's own! It's 88% Acrylic and 12% Polyester and also comes in a great variety of colors.
Both are machine washable and dryable.
If you've never worked with a boucle yarn before, please see my post about how to deal with it. If you don't use the right hook, it will be your worst nightmare. If you use the right hook, it will become one of your favorite yarns to use.
Wool-Ease is used for the main cheese body, the pepperoni eyes, the mushroom nose, and the mouth. Homespun is used for the crust "hair". For the mushroom I start with a magic ring which I will explain in the pattern, but you can also chain for the ring. I will also explain an "invisible decrease" that I used, but you can use another double crochet decrease if you're more comfortable that way (yes, there are many ways to decrease!).
The body has 2 decreases in each row, one and the end and one at the beginning. Then the hair is added. Then the eyes, nose, and mouth.
Since these are super bulky yarns this project works up fairly quickly, even though it's a nice size, and leaves you with a soft, thick, squishy rug or kid's blanket.
Abbreviations:
CH - Chain
SC - Single Crochet
DC - Double Crochet
Dec - Decrease (or double crochet 2 stitches together)
Inc - Increase
HDC- Half Double Crochet
Items Needed:
Size N15 10mm "In Line" Crochet hook (really important for the boucle yarn)
Tapestry needle with large eye, for weaving in ends
Scissors
2 skeins Wool-Ease Thick & Quick - Oatmeal (2 full skeins used)
1 skein Wool-Ease Thick & Quick- Spice (apprx 25% used)
1 skein Wool-Ease Thick & Quick- Toffee (apprx 15% used)
1 skein Homespun Thick & Quick - Barley (apprx 60% used)
Instructions: (For this pattern all CH 2 at beginning of each row count as a stitch)
Note: When I made this I started with a foundation of 60 chains (plus 2) and I used every bit of the 2 skeins of Oatmeal, so I've giving this pattern starting out with a foundation of 58 chains (plus 2) to make sure you have enough to finish. If you want to make it larger than the 58 chains then you will definitely need another skein of Oatmeal, but not any more of the others.

CH 2, Dec 1 DC, 1 DC in each remaining DC until 3 DC are remaining (52), Dec 1 DC, 1 DC in last DC, turn. (56)
Row 3 - Row 28: Repeat Row 2 until you will have 4 stitchs for the last row. at the tip. For the final row - CH 2, Dec 1 DC (two times), SC (instead of DC) and then slip stitch into the side. This will make the edge uniform on each side. Fasten off and weave in ends.
