My lovely friend graciously modeling the scarf for me.
When I saw this yarn in the store I knew I had to have it! This yarn is specifically made to be turned into a scarf but it can easily be used for other things. It's called Scarfie and it's from Lion Brand Yarn. It comes in several different slow change colors. It's so great for a scarf because the colors change slowly back and forth. I wanted to made a thicker scarf since it looks like this yarn is more suited for that. It's a bulky weight (5) yarn with a 5mm hook recommended. Not something that you might wear very often in Florida. So....time for mother-in-law to get a new scarf! She lives in Seoul, South Korea so she can definitely use a scarf during the winter. Also, I think she will appreciate the lovely colors. This one is charcoal/magenta.
I love the way this turned out! And the slow changing color is just gorgeous. You could make a scarf more suited to the warmer climate in Florida by using more open stitches but it would still be something you want to wear during the short amount of time it is cooler. The yarn is 78% acrylic and 22% wool so it is really good at keeping you warm.
One of the things I'm adding to my to-do wish list is a tropical scarf, probably in cotton, we will see. :}
Now, to the pattern. You will only need 1 skein of this yarn to make a scarf. Brilliant!
Items needed
1 skein Lion Brand Scarfie Yarn - charcoal/magenta
1 5mm crochet hook
Scissors
Needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviations
CH - chain
SS - slip stitch
SC - single crochet

Notes
* Since this yarn has wool in it, it isn't the easiest yarn to rip stitches out. So if you make a mistake in this pattern that you can live with, you might want to let it go. With that said, it's not the worst yarn to pull apart, but don't make yourself suffer over a "mistake" that still looks good.
* Starting out, one side will have an increase in each row to create the slant going up the side (at the beginning for even rows and at the end for odd rows). The other side will stay straight. Once you have 30 stitches it will be straight on both sides.
* CH 1 or CH 2 at the beginning of a row counts as a stitch.
* The tapered edges will roll as your crocheting. Once it's finished, either machine wash or throughly soak with cool water and lay flat to dry.
